In mid-May, Lake Como becomes a gathering point for the international automotive scene, driven notably by the momentum of Como Car Week.

It is within this context that Automobili Mignatta positions itself, taking advantage of the vibrant atmosphere animating the lake and its surroundings to showcase Rina—its own interpretation of an analog sports car. A radical two-seater barchetta, deliberately stripped of superfluous technologies, Rina stands out as a distinctive proposition designed to restore a direct, almost physical connection between driver and machine.

Automobili Mignatta: the brand and the project

To begin with, Automobili Mignatta was born in Valfenera d’Asti, out of a journey developed at the JM workshop, first active in aerospace and later in automotive, where carbon fibre has long been the core area of expertise. Founded by Josè Mignatta, an entrepreneur with more than twenty-five years of experience in composite materials, the brand embodies deep technical know-how, translated into the mastery of complex production processes. The transition from technical supplier to independent manufacturer reflects a clear ambition: to offer a singular, almost raw car that stands apart from the market, which is increasingly seen as technologically filtered and less focused on the direct driving experience. Alongside him, Nunzio Annunziata, responsible for strategy and commercial relations, structures the project and gives it a coherent, identifiable direction.

Rina in brief

Rina is a two-seater, open-top barchetta with no roof and no windscreen, designed to maximise the direct relationship between driver and car. On the technical side, it features a naturally aspirated front-mounted engine — a Ford V8 with 460 hp in standard form, increased to around 500 hp after preparation — and rear-wheel drive, with a near 50/50 weight distribution. The chassis is based on an in-house carbon-fibre monocoque, supported by a one-piece carbon-Kevlar composite body, keeping the total weight to around 1,000 kg while ensuring structural rigidity and safety. The gearbox is manual, underlining the desire to preserve a purely mechanical, almost elemental interaction. The design draws inspiration from Italian barchettas of the 1960s, without pastiche or overt quotation, combining pure classic lines with contemporary materials and creating a silhouette that is timeless, elegant and distinctly modern. The cabin focuses on the essentials: few screens, physical metal controls and handcrafted leather upholstery. Rina will be produced in a very limited series and sold privately from the Piedmont workshop, with a starting price of 290,000 euros before tax, plus customisation and optional extras. A club reserved for owners, with privileged access to the team and the brand’s activities, is also planned.

An alternative to the present

Within the unique atmosphere of Lake Como—where automotive heritage meets forward-looking visions—Automobili Mignatta embodies a counter-current approach. Rina promotes a more sensory understanding of performance, centered on lightness, mechanical purity, and driver engagement.

Far removed from the logic of technological excess, it contributes to a broader reflection on the evolution of the automobile—one in which experience takes precedence over interface, and driving pleasure returns to a form of radical simplicity.
